Hayfever is caused by airborne allergens, namely pollen. Pollens are tiny particles that are released from trees, weeds and grasses. When inhaled by humans they can trigger hypersensitive reactions releasing the hormone histamine, which causes the common symptoms experienced in hayfever. 90% of sufferers are allergic to grass pollen and the number of people affected with allergic rhinitis is on the increase, the number of children being affected doubling over the past 20 years.

So how can we combat pollen? One way would be to be indoors when the pollen count is the highest, but we all have to leave our homes at some point, so what about indoors? Remember it's also important to know that pollen can be transported indoors on people and pets, therefore an investment in an air purifier would clean the air within the home. They can often be noisy, cumbersome and expensive, and how can you tell which ones actually work? The boffins at the British Allergy Foundation test numerous products and give the best ones their "seal of approval" and we at HomeMaid have been testing one of these approved systems, which might be the perfect, affordable air purifier.

I suffer from hayfever enough to warrant daily anti-histamine tablets. After testing the ‘Cleanaer' electrostatic air purifying system using a ‘Pure Allergy Cartridge' on the ground floor of our home the difference has been quite dramatic, less snivelling and sneezing, no more runny nose or sore eyes, fantastic! We have used one where our dog snores away the day, result! No more ‘wet dog' smell, just clean "summer fresh" air. Something else to mention is that these small and inconspicuous air purifiers are completely silent, refillable with a variety of cartridges and will soon have an anti bacterial upgrade!

However, apart from all the wonderful technology that's out there you could of course try kissing. Yes, kissing would you believe that Scientists in the Satou hospital in Japan found that kissing worked by relaxing the body and reducing the production of histamine The researchers asked a total of 24 couples, where both partners suffered from hay fever, to spend 30 minutes kissing.
Blood samples were taken and results showed that after the kissing session levels of the chemical were significantly reduced. When the experiment was repeated with cuddling but no kissing, no change was found in the levels of histamine.
It's a proven fact, kissing cures! Scientists said so!!!!
