What is Help Direct - Safe Trader Scheme?
The Help Direct – Safe Trader Scheme is a database of traders covering all aspects of home improvement and repair work including building, carpentry, external property repairs, decorating and home security that is managed by Lancashire Trading Standards Service. All Businesses registered with the scheme have all demonstrated their commitment to fair and honest trading practices and delivering good customer service.
Why should I use the Help Direct - Safe Trader Scheme?
The aims of scheme are to help consumers find reputable traders and to support local businesses.
Customers using a member firm, consumers can minimise the risk of dispute and be assured that if there are problems we will help and assist in resolving them. All members of the scheme have demonstrated that they are committed to fair and honest work and to ensuring good customer service.
Traders can benefit from the independent recognition of their business standards, publicity and a better relationship with regulators based on co-operation. Members of the scheme also have a named contact within Lancashire Trading Standards Service and will receive information on new legislation, trade scams etc
How do I know that traders on the scheme are reliable?
To ensure the credibility of the scheme and that high standards are maintained, businesses are asked to commit to a code of practice; hold appropriate insurance; provide references and agree to work with Trading Standards and other agencies to resolve customer disputes. As part of the application process checks are also made on the applicant's previous trading history.
