What is Mattress Cleaning?
To be precise the service is mattress sanitisation or mattress "detox", rather than as the word "cleaning" suggests a stain or "dirt" removal process. The mattress cleaning process we employ removes dead skin (that'll be yours), dust mite bodies, dust mite faeces and their allergens. This helps ease or eliminate allergic reactions for sufferers, whilst those without allergies may well sleep a little easier.
Why Sanitise a Mattress?
A normal household mattress used frequently will build up a food reservoir for dust mites. This food reservoir is the skin you shed as a natural process every day. As you spend around 6-9 hours each day in bed, its seems obvious you will shed a good proportion of the 1.5 grams a day you lose, in your bed. Now consider that the majority of dust in a bedroom is....literally a part of you....its your skin! Ever wonder why your bedroom seems to get dustier faster than anywhere else? Now you have your answer.
Add to this the fact that you lose around .5l of fluid each night, through your natural breathing process and through perspiration. You now have a dust mite breeding ground.
Dust Mite Allergens - FACT or FICTION?Save Yourself Money
Dont waste money on a testing kit, its almost certain you have dust mites in your bed, your bedroom carpet, bedroom curtains etc. (If you dont believe us, get a tester, try it and vote in our survey....we would like to share these stats with all our visitors). Testing kits are ~£10-20, however I can share with you a little sales technique used by some companies. They offer a "FREE test worth £xx's", safe in the knowledge when you're confronted with this in your own bedroom, you'll be almost certainly compelled to buy their service at upto £60.00 (or more!)

Mattress Cleaning Method
Most mattress cleaning companies like to think their process is a "black art" something you, the general public couldn't possibly carry out, nor understand. I'll just politely say thats "rubbish"!
HomeMaid will clean your mattress using a specialised HEPA filter vacuum, which we use specifically for this task. The vacuum is British Allergy Foundation (BAF) approved for use where allergies might be an issue. We clean BOTH sides of the mattress too, most mattress cleaning companies just treat one side, which is pointless if you have obeserved good mattress care practice and turned your mattress over every 6 months.
The vacuum has 6 filter stages including a water filter* and a 99.97% efficent HEPA filter...so almost nothing (0.03% of particles 1/3 of a micron) escapes back into to your home. Making this incredibly efficient and safe, even for asthma sufferers.
* We have now started leaving the water from the filter for clients to see just what was extracted, as it has quite an impact. We'll publish some pictures in due course, so you can see for yourself.
Treating Allergens
We then use a BAF approved, award winning, eco friendly and natural "denaturing" spray to treat the mattress. The spray is made from predominantly eucalytptus oil, so it smells fantastic and again is safe for pets, children and allergy sufferers. This remains active for upto 1 month, whereupon you can retreat the mattress yourself, using the same spray HomeMaid and the majority of other professional mattress cleaning companies use.
